The HealthyBC Tool is available for use by anyone in B.C., ages 0 to 100. It’s designed to help people who want to learn about what actions they can take to positively impact their health and wellbeing.
Overview
Find out what health screenings, vaccines and other preventive services are recommended for you. Preventive care can support your long-term health and wellbeing. Taking proactive steps can help identify issues before you have symptoms or can even stop problems from developing.
Get started
You'll get recommendations based on your age and your biological sex (optional). You also have the option to indicate if you are pregnant. Your information is not stored or shared with anyone.
Your risk for certain diseases and conditions changes as you age. Your risk is also based on your biological sex, which may differ from your gender identity.
About the HealthyBC tool
Find out more about how the HealthyBC Tool provides recommendations.
The recommendations provided by the tool are based on BC’s Lifetime Prevention Schedule (LPS), and the information you enter about your age, and possibly your sex and pregnancy status.
BC's Lifetime Prevention Schedule
The LPS is a standardized, evidence-based review process to determine priority clinical prevention policies and services at a population level. A Lifetime Prevention Schedule Expert Committee uses evidence and economic modeling to assess the degree to which potential clinical prevention services for people in B.C. are clinically effective, cost effective and have a substantial population health impact. Recommendations are then provided regarding specific clinical prevention policies and services to support and fund.
Age
As you age, your risk of getting certain diseases changes — and you’ll need different screenings based on that risk.
Biological sex
Selecting your biological sex is optional when using the Tool. Your risk for some diseases is based on your biological sex, or your sex assigned at birth. Your biological sex may not be the same as your gender identity. If you are gender diverse, speak with your care provider or call 8-1-1">8-1-1 to find out which preventive services are recommended for you. You can also Trans Care BC to find information about accessing gender-affirming care.
Pregnancy
Indicating if you are pregnant is optional when using the Tool. People who are pregnant need extra services and care, and their babies need important newborn screenings. If you’re pregnant, you’ll get recommendations for both during and after pregnancy.
This tool does not account for individual behaviours (like if someone uses tobacco) or has a pre-existing chronic disease or illness. The tool is based on the Lifetime Prevention Schedule (LPS) recommendations, designed to support recommendations for asymptomatic disease or risk factors, and highlights lifestyle factors that can influence health.
If you have a primary care provider, either a family doctor or nurse practitioner, follow up with them about your options.
You can also call 8-1-1 to speak to a Health Service Navigator. They can provide you with health information and can help you find local health services. They can also connect you with a health professional like a registered nurse, registered dietitian, qualified exercise professional or pharmacist.
